Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any concerns or questions about mercury recovery from dental wastewater, or the Rebec CatchHg that are not answered in the following list, please feel free to contact us.

Is dental mercury recovery necessary?
Municipal treatment agencies across North America agree that dental offices are significant contributors to mercury entering wastewater treatment plants. Municipalities have begun to mandate installation of mercury-separating equipment in general dentistry offices. If you practice in an area that is in the process of mandating or has a mandate in place… we hope you'll choose the CatchHg as your "Simple Solution".

What if my area isn't under a "Mandate?"
We don't want to enter the fray regarding political, scientific or governmental regulatory issues. However, installing a CatchHg communicates to your patients a proactive effort to protect their environment. Many of our REBEC customers have received very positive "press" and some have received local environmental awards.

What are the standards for mercury recovery?
Each municipality sets its own standards for wastewater discharge limits of hazardous materials. Some have adopted the ISO standards for mercury separators in dental offices. This regulation requires removal of at least 95% of solid mercury from the wastewater. Other areas have adopted even stricter standards. The CatchHg meets and exceeds all existing standards.

With what types of vacuum systems will the CatchHg operate?
The REBEC CatchHg has been designed to work with nearly every type of vacuum system currently used in dental offices. If you think you have a unique situation, contact us to see if we need to provide a custom design to meet your specific application.

Do I have to install the CatchHg myself?
No. Your dental dealer will arrange for the installation, and in most cases the CatchHg will be installed within a half hour.

How often does the mercury containment collector need to be changed?
The CatchHg system is designed to handle up to eight operatories for an entire year. For most offices, changing the containment collector once a year under normal use is sufficient.

What if my unit fills up sooner than one year?
It is highly unlikely that this will happen, but if it does, the design of the CatchHg won't allow the unit to overflow, leak or interrupt your vacuum system. If your containment collector is filling faster than anticipated it will be noticed at the time of collection and your service schedule can be adjusted accordingly.

Do I have to dispose of the collected material myself?
Absolutely not! It's very difficult (not to mention messy and potentially dangerous) for an individual office to handle this material and deal with the variety of regulations that apply to this hazardous material. Contact us to find out exactly how simple disposal can be with the CatchHg.

Does the CatchHg have a warranty?
Yes. The REBEC CatchHg comes with a limited warranty.
